Being great or acting great? Is there a difference and more importantly, does it matter? If we truly believe that perception is reality, then being and acting great could very well lead us to the same result. I recently watched an interview on London Real with Chris Eubanks who is an amazing boxer in Britain and a true class act. Chris’s mild manners and bespoke attitude are a huge contrast from volatility and ferociousness in the ring. In a way, it kind of makes sense. The interview in this interview kept reading articles and statements about how people thought he was “great”. You could tell that Chris was almost uncomfortable with this notion and repeatedly said that he was not great, but simply acted great. He said that is he acted great, then people would think he was great and if that happened then he actually was great.

As entrepreneurs, creative, marketers and business owners, it can often be isolating as you do not get the “water cooler” talk that often comes with the situation of being employed for someone else or simply an employee. As a result, we have to pull inspiration from different resources and outlets often leaving us in a state of be wilderness and maybe a tad of humor and weirdness. After all, as business owners, we really are weird and that is okay. It is why we are entrepreneurs, in most cases, we make terrible employees and that is a statement all to itself.

You might be asking, what or how does watching an interview on a professional great boxer help with running a business or succeed in capturing your online customer’s attention in the digital marketing world? I am happy that you asked. Truth is as a business owner, you are running into several situations which are dark and completely foreign. If you are a business owner that is striving for innovation in their particular industry, whether it be automotive or real estate, then you literally might be cutting and forming new territory and that is a challenge all to itself. When moments seem tough and uncontrollable, we all must ask our self and remind our self why wen entered into this particular genre of life, entrepreneurship. Anyone who has ventured out knows that there is much sacrifice that comes with this sort of lifestyle. An example is I am sitting on an airplane right this minute to complete a digital marketing campaign for the Toronto Fall RV Show while my wife is 16 days from giving birth to our first child. The ying and the yang is in true effect. I get many privileges and flexibilities with being my own boss, but I also have to sacrifice to stay in the game and strive. Are you great? Or do you act great? In regards to myself, I do not have an answer, but I do know that I want to act great and bea leader in all categories of my life. Business is great, family is everything though.

Back to school for the kids and back to busy for the adults! September brings us into fall and our beloved holiday season full of activities and events! I am delighted to be a keynote speak for The Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association of Saskatchewan and Ontario in September. Working with the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association of Canada has been amazing and a ton of fun. It has introduced my company into the RV industry. Working with some of the RV dealers has been thought provoking and igniting as they to have customers that are shifting to digital at high numbers during their discovery portion of their RV search. I always like to say in my presentations that marketing to a buyer when they are about to make the purchase is simply to late. We must market to them prior.

I recently just got back from making my keynote presentation in Regina for the RVDA of Saskatchewan and it was an amazing group to speak too. Many of the RV dealers agreed that digital is where they need to go, but some simply felt overwhelmed and unsure of how they should go about it. It all really starts with getting educated and learning first steps of transferring your advertising budget into digital.

I will be speaking to RV Dealers in and around Toronto and Ottawa about how they can use social media and digital marketing to increase their online foot print and sales.

Instagram Stories OR Snapchat Stories? Or Both? Casey Neistat YouTube Fun!

I seen it coming! This all new update is a brilliant move by Instagram for several reasons! Being that Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook offered to purchase snapchat and was snubbed ultimately led to this. With Facebook’s current database of 1.5 billion and counting and Instagram with 500 million plus, this makes marketers, companies and people who have a substancial following on Instagram that much more drawm to use the platform.

What is Instagram Stories and How Does It Work?

In a nutshell, it allows you to take snapshots of your everyday activities and use emoji’s and various text to animate and have fun! Again, just like snapchat stories, they last 24 hours. To get a detailed description click here as Instagram beautiful lays out how stories works.

Now, first thing I thought was “good grief, another platform to keep up with and when in a live moment I want to share, how do I choose?” Well, after spending some good time I must admit I load up my live stories into Instagram and then download onto my Iphone Camera roll and syndicate through my camera roll onward to Snapchat memories. Some would call this a “snapchat sell-out” but for me, time is valuable, but I still want to maintain a presence on both.

Being a marketer and marketing agency owner, it is my opinion that Instagram stories is a massive opportunity to connect with your customers and friends in a much more intimate and authentic way ultimately increasing the bottom line. That being said, we cannot ignore how big Snapchat is and the young demographic that represents so much of our beautiful millennials.

To close this post, I suggest companies and people use both and figure out a good balance in your social selling strategy.

What We Learned From Executing City Of Edmonton Councillor Moe Banga’s Social Media/Digital Marketing Campaign.

I delayed writing this post until a certain amount of time had past after the election as I felt it would be more appropriate. In the City of Edmonton’s most recent ward 12 by-election, my company had the pleasure of assisting on the Moe Banga digital marketing campaign where we were extremely successful. When getting the call from Moe’s daughter to come and give a presentation on how we could amplify his current digital efforts, I thought to myself “this could be really fun and interesting!”. The minute I shook hands with Moe, I seen his passion for wanting to win and serve the people of Edmonton as he had been doing for 20 plus years as a Edmonton Police detective. The first thought that came to mind is “how can I get the social media voter to relate to a middle aged, police detective?” The answer was simple, let’s create a campaign that is all about the people by curating small pieces of content that make the voter feel like Moe is literally a gate way for them to better their own city. I guess, I just wanted the people of ward 12 to take responsibility and accountability for their own community and look at Moe as a tool they can use to do that.

In marketing, we are always looking for strategic ways to be able to figure out what a consumer wants, how they prefer to communicate and most of all the message we need to show them, without annoying them. Most of our marketing clients have products or professional services which we can pull data from and wrap our digital and social media campaigns around to ultimately increase the bottom line.

What we learned from assisting Moe Banga’s digital marketing campaign is that grass roots initiatives are so powerful as they literally are led by the “people” for the “people”. Moe put together an amazing team, starting with his campaign manager and spreading to the rest of the amazing group! This political grass roots campaign was fun, amazing and highly competitive as there was 30 plus other candidates running for the same seat. This was an amazing challenge and an absolute pleasure to be apart of!

3. Certain functionalities of the app need improving like stopping the broadcast and switching the screen around
4. May cause a little anxiousness for people who are camera-shy but also kind of a good thing as it is good practice for you to dominate the stage!
