Uh oh! Beginning of The Trust Cycle: Using Social Media & Digital Marketing to Engage Your Customers

uh-oh

Uh Oh! Platforms, wires, people huddled together trying to get those extra few bars of battery life at the airport. This truly is the digital connection economy. Hopping on an airplane witnessing passenger reactions when flight attendants tell them no monitors are available to view shows. Their only option is to download the app and view on their laptop, iPad or smart phone device is sobering to say the least. For the “millennial” this is just normal life, but as a fellow entrepreneur and marketer, I wonder how they feel or how I would feel if I was in their position. Needless to say, this is our new reality, so let’s make the most of it.

When talking sales or execution of a marketing strategy, the funnel is always brought up. What people tend to forget is the way someone comes into the funnel has completely changed. They are entering the funnel wayyyyyy before they meet you, they are entering digitally on their own terms, in their own time. This is HUGE! Does social media sell and what the hell is the ROI? Well, those are great questions, but it is accurate to say that social media, search and display are the beginning stages of the trust cycle, so if you want to say hello to your customer, I suggest you get social and start building trust. By doing this, I do not mean come outta the gate swinging and asking them to buy your sh*t, but rather to establish some value and authority in your chosen space.

Facebook, Twitter, Snapchat, Instagram, LinkedIn, YouTube are known as social media networks, but make no mistake, they are platforms where people spend a ridiculous amount of time and breath on. We call these platforms, and there are three main stages to platforms: traction, maintaining and expansion. Out of these three, traction is the hardest. Think about trying to lose weight, hardest part is literally getting started. This is part of human nature, if we do not see immediate results or get the desired reactions from our pees, we often dismiss our initial reasons for starting out on the venture. Traction is social media or plat forming is no different as it takes time, dedication and constant thumb exercise. Hah did you get that joke? Are you thumbs hurting? I know mine are!

When tackling you’re your social media strategy for your real estate company or automotive dealership, think of it as a going on a date for the first time. The initial first 5 minutes of the interaction will often likely determine the outcome of what that encounter will look like as it goes on. Ask yourself how you can provide value and gain trust with your customer when making posts or curating your content. Remember, this is not a game, it is all about interacting with people! People are not dumb, they know when someone is trying to sell them, stop it! Seth Godin say’s it best, we are in a permission economy!

Get out there and build some trust!

Come say hi to me.

Keynote Speaker: Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association of Saskatchewan & Ontario | Digital Marketing

rh_orvda
Back to school for the kids and back to busy for the adults! September brings us into fall and our beloved holiday season full of activities and events! I am delighted to be a keynote speak for The Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association of Saskatchewan and Ontario in September. Working with the Recreational Vehicle Dealers Association of Canada has been amazing and a ton of fun. It has introduced my company into the RV industry. Working with some of the RV dealers has been thought provoking and igniting as they to have customers that are shifting to digital at high numbers during their discovery portion of their RV search. I always like to say in my presentations that marketing to a buyer when they are about to make the purchase is simply to late. We must market to them prior.

I recently just got back from making my keynote presentation in Regina for the RVDA of Saskatchewan and it was an amazing group to speak too. Many of the RV dealers agreed that digital is where they need to go, but some simply felt overwhelmed and unsure of how they should go about it. It all really starts with getting educated and learning first steps of transferring your advertising budget into digital.

I will be speaking to RV Dealers in and around Toronto and Ottawa about how they can use social media and digital marketing to increase their online foot print and sales.

Anyhow, message me here if you have any questions.

Facebook Live Ups The Anti With Two Person Interview Style Broadcasts and Waiting Rooms!

IMG_1624 Wow! Facebook Live is pushing hard to disrupt Periscope and main stream television and news cable networks! Since launching their video live streaming service, they have had great success being featured in several hot button news stories along with their existing user base gobbling up the new feature!

In an effort to dominate the online social media space, both personally and professionally, Facebook has been impressive as they have diversified their product offering and really utilized their 1 billion plus users.

Some of the ways businesses are making use of Facebook Live are:

1. Behind the scenes sneak peeks
2. Customer Q & A mixed with frequently asked questions
3. Product reviews
4. How to segments
5. Employee spotlights

With instant access to people’s lives and everyday experiences, Facebook Live has taken full advantage of people’s desire to see through their friends eyes or smartphone camera! Offering live maps to see all the live broadcasts from around the world literally grants people an un-edited and raw unique experience.

I think this new update by Facebook just solidifies where we are headed. Everyone who has a smart phone literally is their own media.

What do you think about the new update?

Instagram Stories OR Snapchat Stories? Or Both? Casey Neistat YouTube Fun!

*Please note, copyright belongs to Casey Neistat YouTube Channel*

I seen it coming! This all new update is a brilliant move by Instagram for several reasons! Being that Mark Zuckerberg, CEO of Facebook offered to purchase snapchat and was snubbed ultimately led to this. With Facebook’s current database of 1.5 billion and counting and Instagram with 500 million plus, this makes marketers, companies and people who have a substancial following on Instagram that much more drawm to use the platform.

What is Instagram Stories and How Does It Work?

In a nutshell, it allows you to take snapshots of your everyday activities and use emoji’s and various text to animate and have fun! Again, just like snapchat stories, they last 24 hours. To get a detailed description click here as Instagram beautiful lays out how stories works.

Now, first thing I thought was “good grief, another platform to keep up with and when in a live moment I want to share, how do I choose?” Well, after spending some good time I must admit I load up my live stories into Instagram and then download onto my Iphone Camera roll and syndicate through my camera roll onward to Snapchat memories. Some would call this a “snapchat sell-out” but for me, time is valuable, but I still want to maintain a presence on both.

Being a marketer and marketing agency owner, it is my opinion that Instagram stories is a massive opportunity to connect with your customers and friends in a much more intimate and authentic way ultimately increasing the bottom line. That being said, we cannot ignore how big Snapchat is and the young demographic that represents so much of our beautiful millennials.

To close this post, I suggest companies and people use both and figure out a good balance in your social selling strategy.

Come say hi on Instagram to me here and tell me what you think!

What We Learned From Executing City Of Edmonton Councillor Moe Banga’s Social Media/Digital Marketing Campaign.

I delayed writing this post until a certain amount of time had past after the election as I felt it would be more appropriate. In the City of Edmonton’s most recent ward 12 by-election, my company had the pleasure of assisting on the Moe Banga digital marketing campaign where we were extremely successful. When getting the call from Moe’s daughter to come and give a presentation on how we could amplify his current digital efforts, I thought to myself “this could be really fun and interesting!”. The minute I shook hands with Moe, I seen his passion for wanting to win and serve the people of Edmonton as he had been doing for 20 plus years as a Edmonton Police detective. The first thought that came to mind is “how can I get the social media voter to relate to a middle aged, police detective?” The answer was simple, let’s create a campaign that is all about the people by curating small pieces of content that make the voter feel like Moe is literally a gate way for them to better their own city. I guess, I just wanted the people of ward 12 to take responsibility and accountability for their own community and look at Moe as a tool they can use to do that.

In marketing, we are always looking for strategic ways to be able to figure out what a consumer wants, how they prefer to communicate and most of all the message we need to show them, without annoying them. Most of our marketing clients have products or professional services which we can pull data from and wrap our digital and social media campaigns around to ultimately increase the bottom line.

What we learned from assisting Moe Banga’s digital marketing campaign is that grass roots initiatives are so powerful as they literally are led by the “people” for the “people”. Moe put together an amazing team, starting with his campaign manager and spreading to the rest of the amazing group! This political grass roots campaign was fun, amazing and highly competitive as there was 30 plus other candidates running for the same seat. This was an amazing challenge and an absolute pleasure to be apart of!

3 Reasons To Snapchat While Traveling | Amalfi Coast (Positano), Italy

Using Snapchat while traveling is a must! Recently, I was in the Amalfi Coast, Italy and had several people message me telling me certain places to visit and see. It really gave me a custom experience in my travels throughout Europe!

3 Snapchat tips:

1. Snapchat first thing in the morning telling people what your day looks like.
2. Ask your snapchat following a question like: “Where have you traveled?”
3. Try to add Geo-filters to the snapchat because it really authenticates where you have been!
4. Bonus tip: just follow me @RyanHoltz1

Overall, the beauty of snapchat is you can really get a different experience overall rather than just going somewhere. I had over 5,000 messages and snaps of people telling me where and what to experience. What ultimately was great, was local business in Europe that were locked into snapchat beefed up the experience tremendously!

Finding Your Following: Social Media Strategies That Work | Edmonton Journal Capital Ideas Feature Article

EJ-event-page-March-3-2016

In the world of clicks, tweets, snaps, facebook posts and just about every other digital and social media platform, stands the business owner wondering which goliath they should tackle first? I was invited to be a speaker on a panel by The Edmonton Journal Capital Ideas team a few weeks back and it was awesome! A room full of small business owners in Edmonton combine to ask some of the best questions regarding effective use of social media.

Here are a few of my favourite questions from the session:

1. How do you cope when your business grows too fast?
2. How do you juggle social media and family/life balance?
3. Should you be scheduling posts and what social media platforms should you use?
4. When dealing within the insurance health fields, how do you form a social media strategy that is still fun amidst all the red tape and governance?
5. How often should you post?
6. Should you be on all platforms?

With social media, I will say it time and time again. It is all about people! Scheduling posts and trying to use social media management tools to distribute content into the world through the various different platforms is a slippery slope because you are dealing with REAL people. I suggest learning and using each platform for the same reasons it’s user base does. Your job as a business owner is to create or curate content that wraps around the platform and speaks to the user.

Here are 7 tips for being successful in social media playing the LONG game:

1. Decide whether you are a DJ or Producer, meaning great dj’s will remix already made music and producer will create something from scratch. Do you create or curate?
2. Create a chart that summarizes each platform so you can repurpose your content based on each social network’s requirement.
3. Create a game plan if you have scheduled content in the event of a disaster
4. Pick two social platforms and make love to them in every way possible so you can get the full advantage of why they are unique and tailor your content to them
5. Figure out what your “why” is and what your “story” is?
6. HAVE FUN
7. Have self awareness
