Keynote Speaker, Ryan Holtz Speaks At Ecole Leduc Junior High School & Beaumont High School For Their Mental Health Day

IMG_2195

Mental health, bullying, leadership, entrepreneurship were all super important topics that I got to chat about as Keynote speaker for both Leduc Junior High School and Beaumont High School on their mental health days. I am super happy to see schools, organizations, universities and people in general start to talk about this and shine light on topics that are crucial to humanity. This subject resonated with me deeply as my childhood growing up was full of many obstacles and hardships. I truly came from humble beginnings and it enforced work ethic, resiliency and appreciation for the small things in life. In 2017, looking at our future community leaders, health professionals, politicians, emergency responders, entrepreneurs, innovators, pioneers and everything above, I truly get chills and excitement.

IMG_5103 Having coaches, goals and playing football was truly my saving grace after my mother passed when I was 13 years old and therefore totally understand what kind of impact this has on our young people who are trying to build their character at crucial moments in their life. I was and have been asked many times by schools, universities, organizations and companies to come in and give my talk on resiliency, leadership and entrepreneurship as I think it is a sobering experience of just what can happen when one person shares their story to many.

IMG_2197There are so many youth out there who have stories that literally cannot be comprehended by many that are extremely talented, but simply need to find their talent or “thing” that just makes them shine. Life moves at the speed of light and in many cases there are just simply not enough moments or people to help those along the way. Life is about being resilient! If you would like to inquire about having me speak at your event, school or company, please do so here.

Ep 07: Protein Shake For Your Mind, 2017 Automotive Predictions & Unilever CMO Keith Weed

img_3717

In this episode of The Ryan Holtz Show I talk about protein shakes for your mind, 2017 automotive marketing predictions and Unilever CMO Keith Weed. Since 2016 has left us, and 2017 is here. I smell an odour like no other, that is the odour of the Future. This is the time of year when many people make their new years resolutions with fitness being one of them. But what about your mind? What about your soul? If your mind and soul are healthy I am sure your body will follow. As many know, a niche market I have managed to carve out for my business is automotive and I strongly feel that in 2017 it is going to be fierce, competitive and scrappy as car buyers are getting more and more educated which forces the dealers and manufacturers to simply keep up. I am excited!

Have fun listening and what is your protein shake for your mind?

[VIDEO] Being Great or Acting Great? If you are in business, then you must be bold. People will treat you as you act. Life of an Entrepreneur. Refer to “Chris Eubanks London Real” interview on YouTube

Being great or acting great? Is there a difference and more importantly, does it matter? If we truly believe that perception is reality, then being and acting great could very well lead us to the same result. I recently watched an interview on London Real with Chris Eubanks who is an amazing boxer in Britain and a true class act. Chris’s mild manners and bespoke attitude are a huge contrast from volatility and ferociousness in the ring. In a way, it kind of makes sense. The interview in this interview kept reading articles and statements about how people thought he was “great”. You could tell that Chris was almost uncomfortable with this notion and repeatedly said that he was not great, but simply acted great. He said that is he acted great, then people would think he was great and if that happened then he actually was great.

As entrepreneurs, creative, marketers and business owners, it can often be isolating as you do not get the “water cooler” talk that often comes with the situation of being employed for someone else or simply an employee. As a result, we have to pull inspiration from different resources and outlets often leaving us in a state of be wilderness and maybe a tad of humor and weirdness. After all, as business owners, we really are weird and that is okay. It is why we are entrepreneurs, in most cases, we make terrible employees and that is a statement all to itself.

You might be asking, what or how does watching an interview on a professional great boxer help with running a business or succeed in capturing your online customer’s attention in the digital marketing world? I am happy that you asked. Truth is as a business owner, you are running into several situations which are dark and completely foreign. If you are a business owner that is striving for innovation in their particular industry, whether it be automotive or real estate, then you literally might be cutting and forming new territory and that is a challenge all to itself. When moments seem tough and uncontrollable, we all must ask our self and remind our self why wen entered into this particular genre of life, entrepreneurship. Anyone who has ventured out knows that there is much sacrifice that comes with this sort of lifestyle. An example is I am sitting on an airplane right this minute to complete a digital marketing campaign for the Toronto Fall RV Show while my wife is 16 days from giving birth to our first child. The ying and the yang is in true effect. I get many privileges and flexibilities with being my own boss, but I also have to sacrifice to stay in the game and strive. Are you great? Or do you act great? In regards to myself, I do not have an answer, but I do know that I want to act great and bea leader in all categories of my life. Business is great, family is everything though.

Drop me a comment and tell me what video or article that you pull inspiration from to keep aspiring to your goals.

Ep 04: Are You “Networking” Or “Not Working” for Business?

img_3717 In this episode of The Ryan Holtz Show, I talk about networking or not working for business. This subject is of very much debate. New business owners and business owners looking to expand their contacts or reach will often attend networking events. Usually the feedback after doing so is mixed.

Some points I discuss in this episode are:

1. Time management
2. Value of the networking group and associated sponsors
3. B2B instead of B2C
4. Your goals and what you are trying to get out of the group

If you are part of a networking group that you get tons of value, please message me here so I can add the group to the list and also give a shout out.

Are you “networking” or “not working”?

I would love to know!

Finding Your Following: Social Media Strategies That Work | Edmonton Journal Capital Ideas Feature Article

EJ-event-page-March-3-2016

In the world of clicks, tweets, snaps, facebook posts and just about every other digital and social media platform, stands the business owner wondering which goliath they should tackle first? I was invited to be a speaker on a panel by The Edmonton Journal Capital Ideas team a few weeks back and it was awesome! A room full of small business owners in Edmonton combine to ask some of the best questions regarding effective use of social media.

Here are a few of my favourite questions from the session:

1. How do you cope when your business grows too fast?
2. How do you juggle social media and family/life balance?
3. Should you be scheduling posts and what social media platforms should you use?
4. When dealing within the insurance health fields, how do you form a social media strategy that is still fun amidst all the red tape and governance?
5. How often should you post?
6. Should you be on all platforms?

With social media, I will say it time and time again. It is all about people! Scheduling posts and trying to use social media management tools to distribute content into the world through the various different platforms is a slippery slope because you are dealing with REAL people. I suggest learning and using each platform for the same reasons it’s user base does. Your job as a business owner is to create or curate content that wraps around the platform and speaks to the user.

Here are 7 tips for being successful in social media playing the LONG game:

1. Decide whether you are a DJ or Producer, meaning great dj’s will remix already made music and producer will create something from scratch. Do you create or curate?
2. Create a chart that summarizes each platform so you can repurpose your content based on each social network’s requirement.
3. Create a game plan if you have scheduled content in the event of a disaster
4. Pick two social platforms and make love to them in every way possible so you can get the full advantage of why they are unique and tailor your content to them
5. Figure out what your “why” is and what your “story” is?
6. HAVE FUN
7. Have self awareness

Snapchat Social Media Marketing For Your Business or Auto Dealership Is A Must! 6 Tips For Business Snapchat Success!

Ok! So admittedly I definitely was not a huge fan of snapchat. It really seemed to be a platform that I found confusing and really not friendly. At a first glance I found the platform confusing to use and all the swipes just overwhelmed me.

The deciding moment for me was it seemed people were just there and we all know that if you are in marketing or marketing for a company, you need to go where the people are and most of all, engage with them! Over the last few weeks I have been leveraging my Instagram account to build my snapchat following. I can honestly say that snapchat has took over as of late. The number one reason: ENGAGEMENT!

In any social media platform whether it is used for an automotive dealership or a dental office, engagement is everything as it allows you to connect with your previous, current and new clients! I predict snapchat will be a game changer and therefore is a must for any digital marketing strategy aimed at engaging with clients and customers!

A few observations and tips for snapchat:

  1. Syndicate your snapchat code on ALL your other social platforms including Facebook, Twitter, instagram and YouTube
  2. Don’t be shy and simply snap moments from your every day life
  3. Make a point to comment and chat with other snapchat users daily snaps
  4. Bring your company’s personality to the forefront by snapping behind the scenes and normal everyday things
  5. Be patient and check out some “how to” snapchat tutorial videos
  6. Have fun!

BORED? —> “WHY” Traveling Helps You Be A Better Business Person & Marketer….Dominican Republic! Papi Chulo!

(null)

Perspective, perspective and PERSPECTIVE! In my humble opinion, travel has opened my eyes to thoughts, feelings and perceptions that I would never be exposed to! I think that in many ways, ideas come from “out of the box” thinking. I recently traveled to Boca Chica which is right outside of Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic.

This trip was awesome but a third world country has no middle class, meaning you have money or you do not! The work ethic of the locals in this country is amazing! I cannot help but feel blessed and humbled ito have the opportunity that I have here in Edmonton, Alberta Canada. We wake up each day with all the resources a human could ever dream of.

Running water from the tap, heat, air conditioning, food, produce are just a few of the basics that we have and do not pay any mind to. Walking around, smelling the air and talking to the dominicans in my “spanglish” in an effort to acknowledge their native language which is Spanish makes my mind think, heart pound and eyes stretch to see as much as I possibly can….to ensure that I never forget my experience but most of all show humanity to people who simply do not have what we have.

Business, marketing, what the heck does this have to do with being a better business and marketing person? One word that comes to mind is HUMILITY. The humility to always move forward, learn, poke and search. Human psychology is business and life.

Here are a few reasons why I think you should travel:

1. Touch, feel and see how others do business
2. Experience how technology or “lack of” impacts efficiency when it comes to business especially tourism and hotel sectors
3. Get out of the “Fish Bowl Syndrome” – I talk about this in my presentations ALOT! If you think your local city is the end all, be all, think again! Remember this world is multi dimensional with meany ways of thinking
4. Gain new ideas! Observe, close your mouth and just listen and take it all in

From this trip alone, I have two new ideas that I will implement into my daily life immediately!

I want to give a special shout out to Be Live Hamaca Resort in Boca Chica, Dominican Republic for showing us a fantastic stay! This hotel was great! If you go, eat at the “Gourmet” restaurant and get the salmon and beef tenderloin! Yum!

(null)

Also, Barb from Westjet is absolutely awesome, as I am writing this blog, she is telling me about some of her past travel stories with the airline. I told her that she should write a blog as people would love to hear these kinds of stories!

Oops! One more thing! One of the historical sites that we seen was the gravesite of Christopher Columbus, some say he is buried in Spain, but none the less, very cool and a great experience!

(null)

I am going to cut this blog short, but think about what I have said :)

Go on a trip or have one planned? I would love to know about it!

What has traveling done for you?
