Welcome to “One Question”. I have decided to do a monthly video series called “One Question” where I go out and ask people a random question. The cool thing about this concept is they do not know what the question will be prior to me asking so it ensures honesty and transparency. I have a passion for marketing, communications and storytelling. There is no better way to combine all three then asking someone “One Question”.
This video series will touch on topics such as:

I had the absolute pleasure of chatting with one of my beloved automotive dealer clients Tim Nadeau from West End Nissan here in Edmonton, Alberta. Tim is a leader and innovator inside the automotive industry and was gracious enough to sit down and talk about where the auto industry is headed in terms of marketing and advertising.
Some of the topics we discuss are:
I will keep this blog post short as the good stuff is in the video. Take a peek and please reach out to me with any questions or to chat about your dealership needs.
Well, this post is long overdue. So as always, when I go on vacation I maximize my time on the plane by reading a good and educational book. My selection this time was a book called “Jab, Jab, Jab, Right Hook” by Gary Vaynerchuk. Yes I know, anyone who has heard me speak has heard me bring his name up many times, it is for one reason and one reason only, he is real, practical and literally tells it like it is! Good old fashion hard work!
Being a marketing person specializing in the Digital Sphere with a niche in the Automotive industry I am constantly seeking out good content and fresh ideas and perspective. This book talks about social media and implementation inside of any business using platforms like facebook, twitter, YouTube, pinterest and instagtam to natively tell your brand’s story. The book focuses on the “how” and not so much the “why” which is great!
I have always said that in marketing you have to make people cry or laugh because it evokes emotion. If you do neither then your chances if standing out in such a noisy world are slim to none. “Do not let perfection hinder you as intent is king”. I love this quote because a lot of businesses particularly automotive dealers are so hesitant on simply starting the process of entering the digital world because they want to be perfect. Most times the imperfections are what makes the perfection.
My advice: Dive in start swimming and come up with a strategy as a automotive dealership to tell your story to your customer base. Have fun with it!

I am very excited to be a guest on The DealerTalk webinar series hosted by Ryan Thompson. The title is: How Social Media Drives Sales? Below are the topics that I will be focusing my presentation on.
Register here and I will see you January 21, 2014.
Last Friday November 22, 2013 I had the pleasure of speaking to The Alberta Motor Dealers Association on the topics of Social Media and how to implement it into the dealership. This is a topic I am extremely passionate about as alot of businesses and people in general are just not sure how to go about getting started. In my presentation I use a picture of Alexander Graham Bell because he invented the telephone. Social media and the whole “digital” culture is not a fad or the next big thing. It simply is another way that human beings are choosing to communicate and for this reason alone, IT MUST BE TAKEN SERIOUSLY.
Anyhow, just wanted to drop a quick blog and invite everyone out to the workshop this Friday November 29,2013 as I will be speaking to Calgary and area auto dealers about social media and digital.
Check out some feedback about this presentation below with some Tweet testimonials 😉
Another awesome interview with a seasoned and innovative Automotive Professional. Asif Premji, General Manager of Okotoks Honda located in Okotoks, Alberta, Canada has over 10 years of experience in the automotive industry. His family has owned the dealership for 15 years.
This interview was truly a pleasure and has tons of useful content both for the customer and other dealer priciples, general managers, sales managers and automotive marketing professionals. I am going to go over our conversation briefly, but as always, all the nuts and bolts are in the interview itself, so be sure to take the 18 minutes and 53 seconds to give it a listen. I guarantee you will learn a few things from one of the best!
Three C’s: Connect, Create & Cultivate is the culture inside of the dealership that Asif and his family live by, breathe and demonstrate. In a world where digital has literally changed how we communicate, do business and live, it is so important that we use platforms like Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, LinkedIn and Instagram to communicate. Currently about 10% of Auto Dealers have adopted digital which is shocking! If you flip the script, 90% of car buyers are starting do their home work (Online) 3-6 months prior to stepping foot in the showroom and when they do, likely they have already chosen the vehicle, it is just a matter of who THEY select to help them in the process. This is where relationship, transparency and trust are soooo important, hense the online new age of communicating. My opinion is if dealers do not wake up and realize that taking out an ad on the back of a newspaper is just not good enough then……yikes.
Now I know that adopting Social Media, Online Marketing and Digital inside of the dealership as a culture can be challenging at best but it is so crucial in moving forward to stay in touch with the customer. Some of the techniques that Asif has used are explaining the “why” to his staff and seeking out professionals to come in and teach his staff some of the new age digital techniques. Education is the big thing here.
I asked Asif if he was a customer walking into a dealership what kind of tips he would give them. Here is what he suggested:
-Start the homework online
-Visit automotive websites like Dealer Rater
-Look at automotive dealers website pictures, if they have snow and it is summer then that means they have been sitting on that vehicle for awhile (Better negotiating power for customer.)
-Look for dealers that offer education tips “How to’s”
-Check them out on google and look for reviews
I will wrap this post up by saying this was an awesome interview with so many good tips for both the customer and fellow dealer. Below is a summary of what you will find in the interview, so as I said previously, take some time out and listen. If you like this interview or found value then please share with your networks. If you would like to reach out to Asif, you can do so here or on Twitter @asifpremji
